Students are doing a culminating task where they must show their understanding of the events, messages, and characters in the book The Breadwinner. It is called a one pager, and will be creative and lovely to look at. See the success criteria below. Next week, we will be moving on to non-fiction texts, text features in non-fiction texts, and text structures in non-fiction texts.
On your one pager
include the following:
1. Title of novel and author’s name in an alternate cover
2. A picture of characters from the novel with adjectives describing
them
3. A description of when and where the novel took place
4. 5 adjectives you would use to describe the novel
5. One important quotation (A sentence or two from the novel) Write the
quotation in quotation marks and include
the page number. Next to or under the quotation, explain why this is
significant
6. At least 3 drawings, symbols, and/or images that represent aspects of
the story
- Use color, be creative, be neat, and fill the page
7. One high level question that can be answered after you read the
novel. Answer the question next to where you wrote the question
On the back, write a one paragraph summary of the selection that
includes details about the plot, setting, characters, main ideas and conflicts,
and the ending. (Use Someone, Wanted,
But, So, Then to help)
Also put your name on the back.

Students are working on a creative culminating task to show their understanding of linear measurement, perimeter, angles, and types of triangles. They are doing a Winter shape scene. See the success criteria below. After, we will be doing a short unit on multiplication and division, and solving problems using multiplication and division.
WINTER POLYGON ART
Create a winter scene using
polygons. It must include:
. at least 3 different polygons
. all 6 types of triangles (some
triangles are 2 different triangles e.g., an equilateral triangle is also an
acute triangle)
. all 3 types of angles (right,
acute, obtuse) shown inside the triangles/polygons
. measurements of 3 different
triangles and one polygon (sides, angles, perimeter)
On the back, tell which part of your
art is which polygon (e.g., cloud = octagon), which part of your art is which
triangle (e.g., top of tree is an equilateral triangle), where your different
angles are (e.g., acute angle on left side of penguin’s nose). If you have
non-polygons in your art, describe what is not a polygon (e.g., penguin’s body
is not a polygon because…)
Tell
which angles you measured, and what the measurement was. (e.g., penguin’s nose

Visual Arts - January 27 - February 7
Students are working on an activity about perspective in Art.
French - January 27 - February 7
Students are finishing creating a snow monster where students must describe the monster using the vocabulary learned. They will also do an oral presentation. After, we will be working on centres that involve winter vocabulary that they learned.
Music/Drama/Dance - January 27 - February 7
Students are presenting dances that they created, and are continuing to play instruments.
Gym - January 27 - February 7
In Gym, students are doing fitness and games.
Media Literacy/Digital Literacy - January 27 - February 7
Students are learning to do research by using different search methods. They have learned about a resource called Pebble Go and have used the TDSB Virtual Library.

Yes, you can. That's a very responsible thing to do. You missed the Literature Circle discussion. It went very well. Still you need to hand it in.
