A note from Ms. Boccongelle

Hello!
My name is Ms. Boccongelle.  I’m currently attending Queen’s University to achieve my dream of becoming a teacher. I’m thrilled to be back at Thorncliffe and am very excited to be part of Mrs. Bordonaro’s classroom community for the next four weeks!  While I am here, I will be teaching language and math, and plan on integrating the theme of the Olympics into our lessons.  It’s great to be back, and I look forward to working with and getting to know this class!

Ad Campaigns

Students worked hard on mock print, television, and radio advertisements as a culminating task for our novel study of "Search for Delicious".  We will be presenting these ad campaigns this week, looking that students used techniques we talked about, and presented aspects of the novel to show their understanding.

Welcome Ms. Boccongelle!

Tomorrow, Monday, February 10, Ms. Boccongelle, a teacher candidate from Queen's, joins our class for 4 weeks until March Break.

She will be teaching some Math and Language, and perhaps doing other special activities with our class.

Ask your child about...

PJ Day

On Wednesday, January 27, 2014, we had our first School Spirt Day, PJ Day.  Staff and students wore their pyjamas, and some brought special pillows and stuffies.  Many students in our class participated.

In Room 204, we did some pj related activities.  We had a Reading Marathon, and we made Polygon PJ's. In their Science class, they made a tent-like structure that they might be able to use at a sleepover!

Novel Study

For the past few weeks, we have been reading the novel "Search for Delicious".  The students and I enjoyed it very much, since it was filled with fantasy, adventure, mysterious creatures, and had some messages.  Ask your child what the messages were!  We also had Literature Circle discussions where each student has a role, and they discuss the action, ideas, and deeper meaning in the text.  These Literature Circles were student-led, and there was some rich discussion coming out of them.

Ad Campaign

Students are now taking what they learned during our media unit, adding it to our novel study, and creating print ads, radio commercials, and TV commercials for "Search for Delicious".  I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Returned work

Students got back quite a bit of marked work last week.  Students should read the comments, and aim to improve next time.  Students may bring the work home to show you, but it MUST come back to school, and be in their folders.

Report Cards

Report cards will be sent home on February 12.  Since there is no interview day for this report card, I will contact you if I feel an interview is necessary.  All parents were interviewed for the Progress Report.
