What's New

On Tuesday, students had a lesson with Officer Janet who visits schools to talk about important issues.  Our talk was about bullying.  Officer Janet reminded students that bullying is not only physical, but it is also teasing, gossip, rumours, name-calling.  We have been having a lot of problems in our class lately with students teasing each other, saying mean things, and gossiping.  Please chat with your child about appropriate behaviour, and treating others the way they want to be treated.

On Thursday, students continued to work on their monkeys in ITLC.  We have one more week left, and those monkeys are looking good!!!!  This week we will give the monkeys a piece of clothing, and say goodbye to the volunteers.

On Friday, students attended a Spring/Earth Week assembly.  We heard the choir, watched the Folkfest dancers, and listened to poems and songs about the earth.

As always, it has been a busy week at Thorncliffe.

News from Room 204

Field Trip to Earl Haig

On Tuesday, April 8, we visited Earl Haig Secondary School to see the Claude Watson dance programme matinee.  Students got to see a variety of dances set to different styles of music.  Before and after the performance, we discussed all of the different aspects that could contribute to a performance, and students have been critiquing the dances they saw.  The boys and girls of Room 204 also seemed to enjoy the bus and subway ride, and the walk.  We do, however, have to work on our behaviour during field trips!!!!

ITLC

Students have been working with volunteers of the Intergenerational Teaching and Learning Community to make sock monkeys.  The boys and girls have been learning important sewing skills, but they have also been learning to work cooperatively with each other, and with their volunteer.  The monkeys are coming along nicely, and will look adorable when they are done.  We have 3 more sessions.

Appropriate Clothing

Although the weather is FINALLY nicer, we have still been having up and down weather, and mornings are quite cool.  Make sure you check the weather forecast, and wear jackets on the cooler days.  Also, although we are (hopefully) rid of the snow, clean, indoor shoes (that have NOT been worn outside) are still needed for Gym, so as not to track in mud and dirt.
