MATH CHALLENGES #2

1) About how long would it take for two or more of these to happen?  Explain
. a movie theatre selling $100,000 worth of tickets
. sleeping 100,000 hours
. counting to 100,000, one number at a time
. downloading 100,000 megabits onto a computer
. travelling 100,000 mm

2) An office has some boxes holding 250 staples and some boxes holding 500 staples.  There are more boxes with 500 staples than boxes with 250 staples.  If there are exactly 100,000 staples altogether, how many of each type of box might there be?  Show your thinking.

3) If you blink about 16 times a minute, about how long would it take to blink about 100,000 times?

4) Write a decimal number:
a) greater than 0.45
b) less than 0.1
c) between 0.29 and 0.4

MATH CHALLENGES #1

What is the number?  My ones digit is 2, the tens digit is four times the ones digit, and the hundreds digit is 1 more than the tens digit.

What is the number?  My thousandths digit is 4.  The ones digit is twice the thousandths digit, and the tenths digit is one more than the hundredths digit.  The hundredths digit is one more than the thousandths digit.

It snowed four times in Toronto last year.  It snowed 5 cm during the first storm, 4.5 cm during the second, 8.25 cm during the third, and 3.8 cm during the fourth.  How much snow did we get altogether?

Ms. Bordonaro's family drove to Florida for a vacation.  They budgeted $200 for souvenirs and family gifts.  At Disney World they spent $95.45 for souvenirs and gifts.  At Universal Studios they spent $65.92. At Sea World they spent $38.95.  Did they budget enough money for souvenirs and gifts?  If they did, how much money was left over?  If they did not budget enough, by how much did they go over their budget?

    Gloopy car.
There once was a humongous car
That thought it could fit in a jar
But then he ate weird gloop
    Which affected how he "pooped"
In the end he met a smart star. Thank you!😅😂
